Generative Audio/Video Installation
Custom Software and Display, 2000

An installation for a dark room with a curved screen.

Gloaming is an installation piece which recreates the calming majesty of a summer's evening. Fireflies float about the screen, speaking to eachother in song. Both the songs and flight patterns are generated dynamicly. Each song lasts approximately 3 minutes and every itteration is unique.

Gloaming is inspired by the traditional Japanese idea, mono no aware, which is an appreciation for the transient beauty of nature. Gloaming is part of a larger body of work which seeks to both capture nature's beauty and create transcendent environments which are created with technology, but seem real.
